Men's Autumn Style on a Budget: Where to Find the Best Discounts This Month

26 August 2026 · 2 min read

Autumn menswear comes down to the same short list every year: a coat that works over knitwear, one or two jumpers, trousers that aren't jeans, and boots that survive rain. Buying that list at full price across four separate trips is the expensive way to do it.

The coat is the one to prioritise

It's worn most and noticed most, which makes it the piece least worth compromising on fit for the sake of a bigger discount elsewhere. Next carries tailoring that holds its shape past one season if you're buying to keep; ASOS has the wider range for comparing cuts before you commit to one.

Knitwear is where the actual savings are

Jumpers see the deepest early-season discounting because retailers stock far more of them than coats, and last year's colour is this year's clearance. River Island is worth checking specifically for this - statement knitwear drops fast once a new range lands.

One pair of boots, chosen properly

Buy boots with enough room to try them at home before the return window closes. Sizing is inconsistent enough between brands that "true to size" on the product page rarely holds up in practice, and a boot bought in a rush is usually the one that gets returned.

Check the code before the sale price

A sale price and a voucher code aren't the same discount, and not every code applies once an item's already reduced - check the terms rather than assuming. When it does apply, stacking the two is usually the actual best price available, not the sale price on its own.

What can wait

T-shirts, socks and anything you're not replacing because it's worn out - not because autumn started - don't need buying this month just because everything else is on the list. Spend the discount where it's actually needed.
